May 14- July 2nd Clinical Herbalism 102 University of New Mexico Continuing Ed.

This course provides health care professionals and interested community members applies skills for the practice of Clinical Herbalism. Students will learn fundamental principles behind preparation choice and practice making fresh and dry tinctures, cordial preparations, ghee and honey preparations, syrups, suppositories and inhalers. Synergies, potentiation and incapsulation will also be part of the experiential learning process.

May 4 is National HerbDay 2013 and herb of the year is the elder berry (Sambucus spp) It is not too early to plan your community HerbDay event. The American Herbalists Guild is working hard to ensure that every one of its chapters engages in this celebration. Please join us in marking your calendar and getting your thinking caps on now! HerbDay is an international celebration of herbs and herbal products that are packed with events aimed at educating and sharing ideas about the many ways herbs bring joy and well-being into our daily lives. We celebrate herbs' use in food, beverages, medicine, beauty products, and crafts, along with the art of growing and gardening with herbs. HerbDay is a grassroots movement and its events belong to everyone who chooses to participate. Some Ideas: Plan a garden tour, host a lecture series, write a local article, organize a festival, give a guided plant walk, setup a market, present a speaker, sponsor a film, schedule a workshop. Our summer field-based course will give students the opportunity to connect with plants in their natural habitats. Over the course, we will be visiting five distinct eco-systems at the peak of their bloom tide! Curriculum includes: plant identification, basic botany, habitat awareness, Klamath-Siskiyou ecology and history, herbal first aid, and the ethics of wild-crafting. Classes will be divided between day-long expeditions and multiple-day field trips and will meet in various locations in the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion. August 22-25, 2013 6th Annual Women’s Herbal Intensive held on Rock Island, Wisconsin Join herbalist and wild crafter Linda Conroy for this amazing journey on a primitive island located off of the tip of Door County peninsula in Lake Michigan.
